Houthaven: New construction on the waterfront in Amsterdam
A characteristic of Houthaven is that most of the buildings are realized on (pen)islands or piers, resulting in an extra number of waterfront homes. These piers, of which the district has seven, each have their own character. This is expressed in the architectural style, which is always a little different. Yet there are also many similarities, especially the building height: no more than four or five stories.
Connection to Spaarndammerbuurt
The Houthaven is located on the north side of the Spaarndammerbuurt. The Houthavenpark forms a green link between the two neighborhoods. But the connection is mainly in the people. Residents of the Houthaven can shop in the Spaarndammerbuurt, and residents of the Spaarndammerbuurt send their children to school in the Houthaven.
