Theaters, cinemas and museums in cozy downtown area
In addition to cozy bars and restaurants, Purmerend also has three theaters: music theater P3, city theater De Purmaryn and Theater De Verbeelding. You can also go to the movies: blockbusters can be seen in Vue Bioscopen, arthouse films in Filmhuis Purmerend (in the town center). Also in the town center are two museums: Kunsthuis Waterland and the Purmerends Museum.
Former growth center, excellent accessibility
In the 1970s and 1980s, Purmerend had the status of a growth center to help solve the housing shortage in Amsterdam in particular. An enormous expansion was the result. Not only with housing, also with facilities. And at the end of the nineties, the town gained another extensive residential area: Vinex district Weidevenne. A good reason for Purmerend's growth was its location. Amsterdam, Schiphol, Zaandam, Hoorn and Alkmaar are easily accessible from Purmerend by car, bus and train.
