What is a housing cooperative?

A housing cooperative is a group of people who jointly realize a residential project with (affordable) rental homes, which they subsequently rent themselves. Such a project, often an apartment building, requires a plot of land. As soon as the municipality makes a plot available, housing cooperatives can register for it. Based on the submitted plans, the municipality determines to which group the plot will be awarded.
