Almere Haven, on the Gooimeer lake, is the oldest district of Almere. It is therefore the birthplace of this modern polder city. Yet, you will also find new construction in Almere Haven. The character of Almere Haven is village-like, with spacious neighborhoods and many courtyards. Those who live here often don't want to leave. This also has to do with the harbor, a culinary hotspot with nice restaurants and cozy terraces on the water. Remarkable about the De Laren and Overgooi neighborhoods is the large number of self-built homes.

Almere Haven has a pleasant shopping center with nice, small shops and specialty stores, as well as large national chains. On Fridays, you can shop even more because there's a market in Almere Haven (on the Markt and the Brink). And at the Havenkom in the center of this district, you can visit one of the many catering establishments for a bite to eat and a drink, while enjoying a beautiful view of the harbor and the Gooimeer.
