In 2012, the Amsterdam New Construction Award was also presented. This year, 48 projects – with a total of 2983 addresses, of which 1398 were social rental addresses – competed for the honor and that coveted plaque. First, the residents of those homes were asked to rate their homes. That survey resulted in a top twenty. Subsequently, a jury – composed of people whose homes were not in the top twenty – visited the twenty best projects and chose a top ten. Then, the Amsterdam residents could make their choice. The De Borneohof ultimately won.
