The new urban district NDSM in Amsterdam North is rising on the site of the former NDSM wharf. Centuries ago, VOC ships were built here; later, supertankers rolled off the slipway. Back then, the shipyard was one of the largest shipyards in the world. Now it is a place with creative companies, festivals, attractive restaurants and more and more housing, especially apartments. Consequently, there is a lot of new construction taking place at NDSM.
