Westerveld Monumental Cemetery and Crematorium
Besides the aforementioned natural areas, there is more magnificent greenery in Driehuis. Like the monumental Westerveld Cemetery and Crematorium, where famous scientists, writers, entrepreneurs and politicians are buried. Think Multatuli, Aletta Jacobs and Anthony Fokker. The cemetery dates from 1888, the crematorium (the oldest in the Netherlands) from 1913. The combination of park, nature and beautiful (grave) monuments makes Westerveld a place of interest.
Stores, restaurants, sports clubs and schools in Driehuis
You will find in Driehuis several stores for daily groceries, some clothing stores, an ice cream parlor, several catering establishments, two soccer clubs, a field hockey club, a tennis club and a museum for nature and environmental education. There are also several schools, both primary and secondary. There is no longer a supermarket. But in (for example) nearby IJmuiden there are several.
Train and bus, beach 15 minutes by bike
The village has an (unstaffed) train station and a bus stop. So you can get to Haarlem very easily by public transport, although that city is also easy to reach by bike. Also very easy to bike to: the North Sea beach of IJmuiden, one of the widest beaches in our country. From Driehuis you can cycle there in fifteen minutes. Even more recreational opportunities can be found in the Spaarnwoude Park, 'behind' the N208 and the A9. Among other things, you can go horseback riding, climbing, skiing and paintballing there. And big festivals take place there regularly.
