New construction in Zwaanshoek

Zwaanshoek (municipality of Haarlemmermeer) was once called Bennebroekerbuurt. The village was seen as a neighboring village to Bennebroek. However, in the seventies, Zwaanshoek grew into a full-fledged and independent village. In those years, a new residential area was added to the old core, with detached houses along the Bennebroekerweg and the Ringdijk. This area included spacious family homes, its own primary school, and a small supermarket. That primary school is known for its high educational quality. For this reason, the school also attracts children from outside the village, particularly from Hoofddorp. There is another reason to move to the village: the new construction in Zwaanshoek.

Vibrant club life, close-knit community

The village has a long-standing vibrant club life (including tennis, bridge, and volleyball). The community is still very close-knit. How did the village get its name? That's thanks to the large numbers of swans that appeared here after the Haarlemmermeer was drained.
