Zaankwartier: historic waterfront site, distinctive buildings
As early as about 1865, steam factories were built here to grind grain. That grain was brought in via the Zaan. Thus the area grew into a real 'grain hub', owned by the company Meneba. In its heyday, some 500,000 tons of grain were ground here annually. Large silos and characteristic, industrial buildings recall those days. A number of iconic buildings will be preserved in the redevelopment of the area. In addition to transformation, there will also be new construction.
Apartments and townhouses, for sale and rent
The housing offer will be very varied. Along the waterfront will be about 65 compact owner-occupied apartments. In addition, the area will also have about 145 more spacious owner-occupied apartments. Some of these will be new construction apartments, others will be apartments in the old factory buildings. Furthermore, also for sale, some 105 town houses will be built in robust residential blocks around an inner square. But Zaankwartier will also have about 400 rental apartments, with social, medium and free sector rents.
Groceries, hospitality, hotel and space for entrepreneurs
In terms of amenities, Zaankwartier will soon have much to offer as well. From daily shopping to cozy restaurants and coffee corners: everything has been thought of. What makes the area even more vibrant is the transformation of Silo America into a hotel/shortstay. There are also various commercial spaces where artists, entrepreneurs and freelancers can realize their ambitions.
