Wibautstraat: nominated for the Amsterdam New Building Prize 2016

On Wibautstraat, between Eerste Oosterparkstraat and Blasiusstraat, there is a still original façade wall with a total of 44 homes and business units. After the demolition-new construction plans fell through, a renovation plan was developed in 2013 on behalf of Coen Hagedoorn Bouw of Huizen. The aim of this plan was to realize as many compact, well-equipped homes as possible, with full outdoor space. Towards the public space, the restoration of this characteristic façade wall was the main starting point.

In view of the quality of the housing, it was decided to largely replace the existing stairwells with new, combined stairwells. On the one hand, this creates space gains within the floor plan, and on the other hand, it creates the possibility of expanding the staircases. In the front facade, the original porches are all retained. In the rear facade, it was decided to demolish the existing extensions, slightly deepen the floor plan and add a full balcony. The dimensions of the interior area allowed for this. The sum of these interventions results in a full two- or three-bedroom apartment. The apartments all have new plumbing and a new kitchen and equipped with individual central heating and mv.
