Valley
The Valley project on the Zuidas is a real eye-catcher, thanks to its bold and quirky architecture. Valley is a building with multiple faces; the reflective glass outer façade and the offices with floor-to-ceiling windows fit the context of a business district. On the inside, the building has a completely different, much warmer look, and natural stone and greenery predominate. The building, with a striking green facade landscape consisting of terraces with lush plantings, provides space for housing, offices, and amenities. It stands on Beethovenstraat, across from ABN AMRO and next to the Sportpark Goed Genoeg (AFC).
Project description
Valley contributes to the municipality's desire to develop Zuidas into a mixed-use urban district for living, working and residence. From the first floor to the seventh floor are offices, space for culture, retail, hospitality and the entrance to the residential towers. The residential floors, with 198 apartments ranging in size from 55 to 700 m2, begin from the eighth floor. Almost all of the apartments are intended for free sector rental.
Green
Most special about Valley is the abundance of greenery in the design. Combined with the natural stone finish, it creates the image of a green valley. The inner garden reinforces this image. It is located on the lower floors and is accessible to everyone. The height differences in the courtyard garden are connected by stairs.
Valley is a building like a small village: it contains a mix of rental apartments, offices, a cultural space, several restaurants and a sky bar.
Architecture
The complex consists of three towers of 67, 81 and 100 meters, connected by a publicly accessible valley on the fifth floor, accessed by outdoor stairs from the street. The landscape architect took into account wind, maintenance and heights. Thus, on lower floors there is room for trees and the greenery on upper floors will consist mainly of Mediterranean herbaceous plants. The 75,000 m2 Valley is an attempt to bring back the human scale in a hard and stony office environment of the Amsterdam Zuidas.
Sustainability
Valley brings together the latest in sustainability, technology and health. Various sustainability aspects were central to the design, from the green experience, sunlight penetration and climate comfort to a way to make the Zuidas more social. The building scores an energy performance coefficient of -0.30. This number expresses energy efficiency. The negative score means that the building's energy output exceeds its energy consumption on average over a year. Valley also achieves an 8 on the GPR Gebouw scale. GPR Gebouw is a software tool that measures sustainability in all phases of a building project: from design to completion.
