Stadsveteraan 020 in Amstelkwartier is a residential building with 110 apartments for seniors. There is a great need for this. The building responds to the aging population and the increasing risk of loneliness in society. It not only provides a nice place to live for this age, but also offers a social living environment.

Living

The building with 110 compact social housing units offers independent housing of 41 m2 and friends housing (shared housing) where seniors rent a 23 m2 studio with its own bathroom. The kitchen, living room and outdoor space are shared. The variety of housing allows the project to meet different housing needs within the senior target group, and it also offers flexibility to residents in how they want to live and interact with others.

The collective spaces, such as the cooking studio with roof terrace, gym, reading room and laundry room, are spread throughout the building and form meeting places. In addition, guest rooms are available for (grand)children, which makes the homes extra attractive for seniors who like to host family. The garden room on the inner garden, forms a transition between inside and outside and creates a quiet, sheltered spot.

Architecture

The collective spaces not only define the use of the building, they also leave their mark on the architecture. For example, the materialization of the facade, in the case of the cooking studio, is an imprint of the use of the space behind. And so a building was created in which the collective facilities, both functionally and aesthetically, are image-defining for the complex.
