Rental properties in Westerpark
Pepper is one of seven new residential buildings in Westerpark West. They stand along Haarlemmerweg on the site where ING had its offices. The new residential buildings each have a distinct look. Pepper stands next to Salt. Both towers are notable for their distinctive periscopic shape and color. Salt is white and oriented toward the city center, while Pepper is black and faces the allotments toward the north. Pepper contains 76 free sector rental apartments.
Living
There are 1-, 2-, 3- and 4-room apartments ranging in usable area from 37 m2 up to 86 m2. All apartments have private balconies with views of the city and/or the green Bretten area. Underneath the building is a parking garage for residents.
Architecture
Pepper was designed by the Amsterdam architecture firm Elephant. Pepper stands as a black monolith at ground level. Each building element is intentionally coarse, massive and partly without defined scale to emphasize the whimsicality the design. This is also reflected in the balconies, which appear as dark recesses pushed into the facade openings at different angles.
The seven buildings in Westerpark each have their own character and together they form a strong ensemble. By varying building typologies and the layout of the public space, a striking neighborhood is created in the middle of the city. That green is an important element in this master plan is evidenced by the diversity of outdoor spaces, from front gardens and loggias to balcony gardens and roof terraces.
