The apartments in the IJdock complex always have two sides: an open side facing the water and a more private side facing the inner street. On the water side, seven-meter-wide folding doors give the living spaces maximum contact with the IJ: not just views, but also wind, sound, and smells.
On the inner street, the facade is a summation of balconies, doors and shutters, inspired by the facades of Indian residential buildings with their abundance of bay windows and balconies. The shutters can be rotated into various positions, thus regulating views, privacy, and sunlight. With the exception of the facade on the IJ, the entire building is constructed from a light green glazed brick to which a pearlescent substance has been added to the glaze, so that the brick gleams golden in the sun.
