The characteristic GAK office at the Bos en Lommerplantsoen in Amsterdam West is undergoing a transformation into residential housing. Following the successful realization of 320 studios in the north wing, the 331 studios of the south wing were completed by mid-2015. The imposing building was designed in 1959 by Ben Merkelbach and has a total size of approximately 40,000 m2. The redesign is being handled by Wessel de Jonge architecten. They have designed the iconic curtain walls in such a way that the original appearance remains virtually identical while fully meeting contemporary requirements.
Of the 331 homes in De Studio Part II, 215 have been put on the market by BLP1 Properties (AM and Stadgenoot) and 116 are being rented out by Stadgenoot. The offering consisted of 28 m2 studios and 47 m2 two-room apartments. On the ground floor there are spacious entrances and a laundry room. In the basement, a communal bicycle parking area and individual storage units have been realized. The target group consisted of young urbanites and singles. De Studio Part II meets the demand for affordable housing and small residential units within the Amsterdam ring road.
