The Pink Halls: nominated for the Amsterdam New Construction Prize 2019

De Roze Hallen is a self-build project by a group of LGBTQ+ individuals (lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender). Together, they have realized an (almost) energy-neutral and accessible apartment complex for members of the LGBTQ+ community aged 55 and over or with a care indication. With this home, their living formula, and the environment, they remain "forever young."

The complex is located directly on the canal, has five floors with an elevator and two stairwells. Each residence has a different size and layout. The block sits on top of a two-story underground garage intended for the entire neighborhood. Home automation has been implemented to make the residences suitable for people with mobility issues, enabling them to continue living independently for longer. There is a communal garden and guest apartment, and possibilities for exchanging or sharing products and services are being considered. The high degree of sustainability contributes to the living comfort. This makes the building future-proof.
