The Bend
The De Bocht project is located in the new Cruquius neighborhood in Amsterdam East. The apartment building with the stepped tower there is one of the eye-catchers. The building follows the curve that Cruquiusweg makes here along the Entrepothaven and allows the residents to enjoy the presence of the water to the maximum.
Living
De Bocht has 124 apartments and 700 square meters of commercial space. The distribution is 52 owner-occupied homes. 42 free sector rental apartments 19 social rental apartments and 11 three-story townhouses on the harbor. The building has an internal residential street and is located on the quay. De Bocht is an answer to the question of how to live close together and still have livable, equal neighborhoods with contemporary buildings. The building rises from seven stories to a 15-story height accent.
Because of soil contamination, it was not feasible to create an underground parking facility. The solution was found in the form of a three-level parking garage in the core of the complex. This also houses the storerooms for the homes and a bicycle storage area. A green courtyard has been created on the roof of this garage.
Architecture
The 40-meter-high tower rises in steps, giving the apartments large terraces. Through the panoramic glass facades, residents take maximum advantage of the water views. The stepped structure between the seventh and fifteenth floors also makes De Bocht a statement. As a result, it becomes a sculptural, monolithic structure. The terraces face the waterfront, giving the idea of a waterfall. The building has a light, maritime and at the same time industrial look as a reference to the past of this area.
In De Bocht much attention has been paid to light, spacious entrances and smart connections of the shared spaces for all residents such as the courtyard garden, the harbor, the garage and the bicycle storage. The entrances in the tower and on the waterfront have high voids with lots of glass. In the tower, a void connects four floors.
