Project description
In the Houthaven on Wibor Island, Woonstichting Lieven de Key has realized 41 social housing units in residential building Afzelia. The homes range in size from 39 m² (two-bedroom house) to 113 m² (five-bedroom house) and are primarily aimed at families. The architecture is inspired by the warehouses and warehouses in the nearby Oude Houthaven and is characterized by special masonry elements such as Brazilian masonry and nesting boxes for swallows and bats.

The homes face a common garden to the rear that borders the canal. All dwellings also have their private outdoor space on this side. On the upper floors, the galleries are widened locally to provide space for private outdoor space. The residences on the first floor are mostly maisonettes with a private entrance on the quay. At the two heads of the building are the main entrances to the apartments above, which are connected on the south side by galleries. The apartments on the top floor, due to their location under the special roofs, have a free height of up to six meters in places. The complex is gas-free and equipped with district heating and cooling.
