Ymere has completed the Kraaipan project in Amsterdam-Oost. This involves the renovation of the monumental Kraaipan School and the new construction of two blocks of social housing in the Transvaalbuurt. Fifty senior apartments have been built on Hofmeyrstraat, including a housing cooperative for elderly Moroccan residents. Care institution Cordaan has been allocated five group homes for elderly people with dementia on Transvaalkade/Hofmeyrstraat. The Kraaipan School now houses 10 apartments for people with a psychiatric condition.
Hofmeyrstraat has received a new neighborhood square and serves as the entrance to the Kraaipan service point. Visual artist Martijn Sandberg has designed a floor artwork for the new square. The text "Tomorrow everything will be alright" is written on the square using lines of light yellow bricks. The artwork was made possible in part by the Amsterdam Fund for the Arts.
The architecture of the new-build homes fits the style of the Berlage architecture in the surrounding area. During the renovation of the Kraaipanschool, the original details were restored. In 2013, the Kraaipanschool won the Zuiderkerk Prize, a prestigious professional award among architects.
