Over the past decade, Wenslauerstraat in the Bellamybuurt has undergone a complete transformation. Prompted by the street renewal plan, dozens of homes have been renovated, and more than ten old houses have been demolished and replaced by new construction.
The plan is a collaboration between the district, housing association Stadgenoot, private individuals, various architects, and small developers. Recently, five homes designed by M3H were completed: two small buildings each containing a single-family home with a garden, and a third small building containing three apartments.
The three small houses were designed as an ensemble and carefully integrated into the street profile. The facades and roof are clad with hardwood slats. The window frames are made of coated aluminum, and the transition between the frames and the wood consists of steel profiles. As a result, the window openings are abstract and simple. The houses have acquired a somewhat surly and stubborn appearance, which contributes to the traditional everyday character and diversity of the street.
