The buildings at Bankastraat 22 and 24 are part of an architectural unit of five buildings constructed in 1902. The foundations of the buildings showed major defects and in 2004 the facades were shored up due to severe subsidence. Demolition and new construction was the only solution.
The original street facades were subsequently rebuilt with seven new-build homes behind them. The two buildings now share a single central stairwell, painted sunny yellow and featuring a large skylight. To also create large living spaces, the upper homes have been designed as maisonettes: four maisonettes spread across three floors. Through a bright, spacious hall, you can look right through the homes from front to back. The upper homes enjoy extra light and views via cantilevered bay windows in the side wall.
