Coubertin comprises 89 rental apartments for middle-income residents on Zeeburgereiland. The residential complex consists of six separate buildings with a varied housing offer of 2-, 3- and 4-room apartments with a shared parking garage. Almost 20 percent of the apartments are exclusively allocated to people in the care & welfare sector.
A separate layout was devised for each resident target group. A special feature is that in addition to families, there are specific homes for house-sharing residents with a shared living room but with their own bedroom and bathroom. Within the ensemble of blocks, one block is executed in a different color of brick with masonry piers with the aim of accentuating this block and allowing the inner area to be experienced as sufficiently light. Furthermore, there is a green "staircase" and a the roof garden for general use.
Underneath the project is a semi-underground parking garage. The resulting height differences allow for great variation at the building and dwelling level. For example, homes with extra storey height or semi-sunken outdoor spaces.
Coubertin is located in the middle of the Sports Heroes neighborhood of Zeeburger Island. The project is named after the creator of the modern Olympic Games, Pierre de Coubertin.
