Project description
The Zuidoever project is located in the Zuidas and is a new living, care, and wellness concept from Cordaan for elderly people with care needs. Elderly care in Amsterdam is changing. The number of elderly people is increasing. Within this group, there are significant differences in living situations, lifestyles, and health. Cordaan wants to be there for everyone, regardless of lifestyle or background. Zuidoever comprises 54 apartments for seniors who are willing and able to pay for high-quality living enjoyment and additional services.

The concept focuses on seniors who require 24-hour care and also want to live pleasantly and comfortably in a safe environment with ample privacy. They wish to continue living their lives as accustomed to as much as possible and can count on good care and support. At Zuidoever, living and life are paramount. This is reflected in the building's design, where light, air, and water are central. These elements are incorporated into the green surroundings, the apartments, and the rich array of spaces and facilities available to residents, such as a garden and winter garden, eat-in kitchens, lounges, a physiotherapy room, and a space for film screenings and concerts. The building offers the perfect balance between sufficient privacy and the opportunity to socialize.

Everyone lives near the garden, partly protected from the elements by the large greenhouse, allowing residents to be outdoors year-round. Elderly individuals with dementia and those with somatic conditions reside here. This imposes specific requirements on the living and care environment. Those with dementia benefit from a more enclosed environment, while people with physical limitations prefer contact with the outside world. Within Zuidoever, both are possible: it offers a larger external world and can be scaled down to a safe, home-like space. The entire atmosphere invites movement; it is light, open, and "warm."
