The Jakoba
The Jakoba is a sustainable new construction project with 135 social housing units owned by Ymere. There are also 2 commercial spaces. The project is located in Overhoeks, the new neighborhood in Amsterdam North, behind filmmuseum EYE.
Project Description
At The Jakoba, studios are primarily for single-person households. The affordable homes are available for both first-time buyers and move-up buyers. The average surface area of the homes in De Jakoba is 46 m2. Maximum effort has been put into the living experience and the studios are very openly designed as microlofts.
Architecture
A special feature of the building is the short construction time of 1.5 years due to the use of prefabricated facade elements. It is important that the building fits into the appearance of the Overhoeks neighborhood. Therefore pistachio green ornamental concrete elements were produced, blasted and polished for this project.
The design has one clear intervention: by squeezing the volume in the middle, as it were, the floors stagger and curve upward. This creates an all-sided building, but with four different facades and four unusual angles. The shape of the building thus becomes irregular and graceful.
Collective outdoor space
In the middle is a collective garden. On the narrowest part of the lot is the main entrance as a passage between that garden and the street. A play with bands and piers of light green concrete reinforces the recognizability of De Jakoba.
