Final piece of the renewal of the Kolenkitbuurt

The Wiltzangh & Flierefluiter project by housing association Eigen Haard is the concluding phase of the renewal of the central area of the Kolenkitbuurt in Amsterdam-West. The project consists of two building blocks on the Wiltzanghlaan and the Akbarstraat. A total of 126 rental homes have been realized. The emphasis was on single-family homes and family apartments. There is also a residential group for 23 elderly people.

Living in Wiltzangh & Flierefluiter

The Wiltzangh & Flierefluiter program includes 65 social and 61 mid-segment rental homes. The majority of the homes (including many single-family ground-accessible homes) are located on car-free, child-friendly streets connected to the central park. The building on Wiltzanghlaan is intended for a senior housing group (with a Moroccan background) and features a communal room and garden.
Each residential block has a central green courtyard with small gardens, terraces, communal greenery, and a number of parking spaces. The courtyards promote encounters and social safety among the residents.

Architecture Wiltzangh & Flierefluiter

The architecture of the blocks connects on each side to the character of the public space and the surroundings. The surrounding architecture of the late 1940s and 1950s, characterized by brick architecture with simple volumes and rhythms, has been continued in the design. The two colors of masonry contribute to the smaller scale and the layering in the architecture. A sturdy masonry roof cornice connects the various volumes with each other.
