Centrumeiland-zelfbouwkavels-zelfbouw-ontwikkelaar-Amsterdam

Self-build with developer on Centrumeiland (Amsterdam) in sign of neighborliness. Get involved!

Self-build in a group, with the help of a developer. This special variant is possible on the last self-build plot of Center Island in Amsterdam. There, by the water, there is space for a project with 110 residential units (minimum 60 and maximum 80 percent free sector). Only teams consisting of an architect, a developer, and at least one resident initiative (self-build group) can apply for the plot. The plans must result in a residential building that emphasizes home-making and solidarity. It is not an auction, but a competition. The best plan wins and may be implemented.

The perfect opportunity for self-build groups to start working with developers from the very beginning

There are several groups of residents in Amsterdam with ideas for housing forms focused on neighborhood living, but they often do not have the knowledge or the money to actually realize those housing forms. With the registration for this last plot on Centrumeiland, that is different. That registration offers these groups the perfect opportunity to sit down with a developer and an architect from the very beginning.

DIY with the developer: Meet & Greet to form a team together

The municipality actively supports the formation of these combinations. On Thursday 14 November, it is hosting a Meet & Greet. Residents' groups can meet developers and architects there to form a team. You can register for this meeting via this formThen you will automatically receive more information, for example about the location and time. A little over a month later, on Tuesday, December 10, the municipality organizes a second meeting. Then the teams that have already been formed will receive information about the rules of the design competition. They will also be able to ask questions. There is, however, another way to form a team: by posting an announcement on the digital bulletin board from the municipality. You can also respond to other people’s calls via the notice board.

Neighbourhood is becoming increasingly important

The emphasis on neighborhood cooperation in this self-build project is not a coincidence. As we get older, there is an increasing need for care. And there is already a huge shortage of healthcare staff. That shortage will not disappear. People will therefore have to take more care of each other. Living arrangements that bring people together and do things together are therefore becoming increasingly important.
