New construction in Middenbeemster

Middenbeemster is a charming village in De Beemster, one of the most famous polders in the world. This polder, which is a UNESCO World Heritage site, was drained in the seventeenth century using fifty mills. The strict, symmetrical layout from that time is still visible in the landscape today. As historic as the village is, new construction is also taking place in Middenbeemster.

Shops, restaurants, sports clubs, and cultural center

The amenities in Middenbeemster are excellent. In the village center, you'll find various shops for daily groceries, including a supermarket. There are also several restaurants. And there's a vibrant club life. In Middenbeemster, you can play soccer, tennis, golf, handball, carpet bowls, and – in a more old-fashioned way – stone skipping. For a movie, a try-out, or a children's activity, head to the cultural center "Onder de Linden."

Old church, two museums

The village has a beautiful old church and two museums: the Westerhem Agricultural Museum and the Betje Wolff Museum, dedicated to the feminist writer Betje Wolff who lived in Middenbeemster in the eighteenth century.
