Maritime Museum Eyecatcher Marine Barracks
The Marineterrein is located on the east side of the city center, with the Maritime Museum as its standout feature. It was in use from 1655 (!) by the Admiralty of Amsterdam and later by its successor, the Royal Dutch Navy. Now that the Ministry of Defence has largely withdrawn, the site is available to the city. Dozens of companies and organizations have already moved into the vacant buildings. They are involved in, among other things, innovative projects for a livable, sustainable, and future-proof city.
Marineterrein: approximately 800 new homes
The new neighborhood will eventually have space for approximately 800 new homes, ranging from social housing to mid-priced rental and owner-occupied homes. In addition, there will be space for innovative companies, as well as for students, educational staff, and arts and culture. The military will remain present with a compact barracks and a sports field. Around 70 percent of the area will remain undeveloped.
