The 74 newly built single-family homes are part of the Kruitpadwal & Productielijn project. Not a flashy combination of names, you might say. But they refer to the area's rich history as an ammunition factory. The 39 homes in the Productielijn sub-plan will be built on the site where raw materials and products were transported by water and rail. The 35 homes of the Kruitpadwal sub-plan will be located along the Muidertrekvaart, once the lifeblood of the former gunpowder factory. The architects nod to that history with their robust designs. You will see homes with 'sawtooth roofs' that bear some resemblance to old warehouses. Furthermore, you will see (among other things) woodwork on the facades, narrow and vertical windows, large wooden window shutters, and overhanging roof sections that resemble hoisting beams of old canal houses.
The living areas of the corner and terraced homes range from approximately 107 to no less than 183 square meters. Between these extremes, you will find many homes of around 126 and 145 square meters. There is therefore a wide choice. The homes have two, three, or four bedrooms and often a flexibly layout attic floor. They all have a garden. Some of the homes in the Productielijn sub-area are situated on a car-free street. Other homes in this sub-area are located by the water. This also applies to all homes in the Kruitpadwal sub-area. The front facades face the Muidertrekvaart canal. Across from it, you have a so-called south-facing 'front garden' (overtuin). A lovely spot to enjoy the sun and passing boats. Fine remnants of both the factory and the fortifications have been preserved. Furthermore, the area is wonderful for walking along forest paths and through park-like areas. And if you want to get some fresh air, you can easily walk to the dike along the IJmeer. The neighborhood is in full development.
