Hembrug site: 1,400 new housing units between industrial heritage and nature
The site is about eighty soccer fields in size. About one-third is forest. Many buildings are still there, sometimes in poor condition, sometimes beautifully restored. This industrial heritage and its location on the North Sea Canal, as well as the many acres of nature, make the Hembrug site a special place. Creative entrepreneurs saw this back in 2014, when the site was released. As true pioneers, they gave the Hembrug terrain a new and softer character. Events have also increasingly taken place there since then. Meanwhile, housing is being built. And that will continue for some time to come. Eventually the Hembrug site will have about 1,400 new homes.
Easily accessible by bicycle, public transportation and ferry
The Hembrug site is located on the border of Amsterdam and Zaandam. By bicycle you can be in the bustling center of Amsterdam within thirty minutes and in the heart of Zaandam within ten minutes. The area is also easily accessible by car and public transportation. Thanks to the Hempont, which leaves around the corner, you can sail across the river in no time.
