The Ark is rising on the Buiksloterkanaal and Docklandsweg in the urban neighborhood On the IJ in Amsterdam North. The building consists of two-, three- and four-room apartments with living areas up to approximately 112 square meters. Only a few two- and three-room apartments are still available, with living areas of approximately 56 to 75 square meters. The facade line on Docklandsweg is tight and stepped, while the facade on the water slopes away at an angle. The advantage of this sloping facade is that it provides an optimal view of the canal.
The Ark is the first building in Aan het IJ to consist largely of wood. This is sustainable larix and spruce wood, sourced from European forests. Because this wood replaces a lot of concrete, the CO2 impact of the construction is considerably lower than building with traditional concrete. Wood also provides a more pleasant indoor climate. And for more atmosphere.
