Amstelkwartier Kavel 8A wins Amsterdam New Building Prize 2025

New construction project Amstelkwartier Kavel 8A has won the Amsterdam New Construction Prize 2025. During an online election through this website, this project received the most votes from Amsterdam residents. The Amstelkwartier is loved, as second place went to a project across the street: Stadsveteraan 020. On Saturday, June 14, the new alderman Steven van Weyenberg, together with Sander Haagedoorn (chairman of the Amsterdam department of Bouwend Nederland), presented the prize to the residents, developer, builder and architect.

Amstelkwartier Kavel 8A: middle rental for different target groups

Amstelkwartier lot 8A consists of 55 large apartments and townhouses in the middle rent, aimed at different target groups: from starters to families. The project also includes a nursery with a roof garden playground. The entrance at the tip of the building jumps in a bit, so that the upper floors overhang. On the roof of the sunken parking garage is a triangular courtyard garden for residents.

Sustainable and nature-inclusive living in Amsterdam

The building is highly sustainable and nature-inclusive, producing more energy than it consumes. Rainwater falling on the roofs is delayed. Rows of nesting boxes are part of the façade design and provide space for various species of birds and bats. And climbing plants against the interior walls provide cooling.

Housing for middle-income earners in Amstel Quarter

"It is very clear that Amsterdammers appreciate affordable middle-income housing in such a place as Amstelkwartier," said Alderman Van Weyenberg at the award ceremony. "I am really happy to receive an award for these 55 large middle-income homes. As far as I am concerned, we will build many more of these homes for families." Sander Haagedoorn: "The fact that in Amstelkwartier two projects with affordable rental housing scored highly proves that high-quality construction can also be done in this price segment."

Appealing architecture

Henk Jan Hollander of developer NL-Development: "Amstelkwartier 8A is not only sustainable through good floor plans and energy savings, but also through beautiful appealing architecture."
