New construction in Westpoort
Amsterdam Westpoort is the largest contiguous business park in the Netherlands and the fourth largest port in Western Europe. Every day, 47,000 people work here, while only 370 people live there. The area stretches from the Houthavens and Sloterdijk in the east, to Spaarnwoude and Ruigoord in the west. It is an extremely industrial area with around Sloterdijk – and adjacent to the Houthavens – a few houses.
Living in Westpoort
On the border between Westpoort and the Houthavens, new construction project is being set up for Frame Amsterdam. In this special building, 28 apartments with a high-quality finish and a wide view of the IJ will soon be built. Frame Amsterdam is located directly on the IJ and connects to phase 1 and 2 of the Kopblok project in the new housing estate Houthaven, where everything is being built. The final piece of this development is Frame Amsterdam, which will be stabbing almost in the IJ.
Westpoort is adjacent to the new housing estate Houthaven. In the nineteenth century this was literally the place where ships from all over the world came to unload tree trunks. Now the area is a popular hotspot, where creative companies, ambitious new construction projects and, for example, the Theater Amsterdam have established themselves. Nice to know: in this neighborhood is also one of the most expensive apartments of Amsterdam sold. It concerns the penthouse on the top floor of the yet to be realized Pontsteiger tower. The purchase price: 15 million euros.
As said, few people live in Westpoort. Thanks to the proximity of the Center and Westerpark, entertainment and relaxation for the few residents are never far away. But there is also plenty to experience in Westpoort itself.
Artists village Ruigoord
Think especially of artist village Ruigoord. This village on the western edge of Westpoort is ‘an idealistic and idyllic place where artists work on their own oeuvre’, according to the website of Ruigoord. In the tiny village there is always a relaxed hippie atmosphere. In Ruigoord everyone is himself, independent of the stress and bustle of the city. Often there are festivals in this artists’ village, such as Shoeless. Drum workshops are also given, for example.
Accessible by metro, train and bus
Amsterdam Westpoort is best reached via Station Sloterdijk. Here you can easily take the metro to Nieuw-West, the train to the Center or the bus in the direction of Haarlem and IJmuiden.
