New construction in Lijnden / Boesingheliede
Lijnden (originally De Lijnden) is a village in the municipality of Haarlemmermeer, in the Dutch province of North Holland with 914 inhabitants in 2008. The village is named after the De Lynden pumping station, one of the three steam pumping stations that have dried up the Haarlemmermeer. The pumping station was named after Frans Godert van Lynden van Hemmen (1761-1845) who in 1821 had written a plan for the reclamation of the Haarlemmermeer.
During the reclamation, a spit was excavated at Lijnden for the ring canal; the current Raasdorperweg still runs along the edge of the headland.
The buildings are situated around the pumping station, on the ring dike (Akerdijk and Lijnderdijk) and on the Hoofdweg along the Hoofdvaart.
Southeast of Lijnden is a business park (Lijnden-Oost or Airport Business Park Lijnden) with companies related to Schiphol Airport, and then Badhoevedorp. The Amsterdam Baan runs through the business park, connecting Amsterdam Nieuw-West with the A9.
Zwanenburg is located north via the Lijnderdijk, and you reach Boesingheliede west via the Schipholweg. Between Lijnden and Boesingheliede lies the motorway Node Raasdorp.
The two churches of Lijnden have both been put out of use. The Roman Catholic St. Francis of Sales Church from 1859 on the southwest side of the village, the oldest Roman Catholic church of Haarlemmermeer, was withdrawn from use in 2002. Furthermore, there was the reformed Faith and Charity Church from 1935. In 1969 the reformed van Lijnden merged with the reformed and later also with the Reformed Churches of Badhoevedorp, after which this building for worship was closed in 2001.
