Nieuwbouw in Westwijk
Westwijk mainly consists of low-rise buildings, but also has some flats with lots of green around it. The structure of the neighborhood was primarily determined by the ditch allotment of the Noorder Legmeerpolder.
The residential streets are generally in line with each other, giving long sightlines.
The shops and a library are centrally located in the neighborhood.
In Westwijk you will find a large variety of avenue trees. In recent years, some interventions have taken place in the green structure. The reason was that many poplars started printing the pavement.
Westwijk is the youngest district of Amstelveen where expansion is still taking place.
In November 2006 construction started in the Westwijk Zuidoost. The neighborhood has now almost been completed. It has become a beautiful and varied neighborhood. Single-family homes have come in different types and apartments.
Location of the area
The Westwijk Zuidoost area is located on the west side of the Bovenkerkerweg, between the Bovenkerkerweg and the tram line 51. On the north side of the area is the Hugo de Vriesweg, with the tennis courts and the Kegel. On the south side is the Van Hattumweg. The mayor Wiegelweg runs right through the area.
What will and when will it be ready?
Around 880 homes and apartments are being built in the area. There is a lot of attention for energy, games, greenery and water. Facilities have also been built, such as the care institution Het Zonnehuis with a day nursery.
At this moment is being built on the final stage, phase 4, of the district. Here are still 182 homes of Westwijk Zuidoost C.V. The first homes are currently being delivered.
Timpaan is building another 18 homes on the Bovenkerkerweg. The construction of this has started. The houses are ready in 2014.
What is being built on the Bovenkerkerweg
Timpaan builds 18 owner-occupied houses on the Bovenkerkerweg. It is a single row of 13 houses along the Bovenkerkerweg and a strip with 5 larger detached houses behind it. Almost all homes have been sold in December 2013, the first pile will be beaten.
What is being built in phase 4
In May 2012, Westwijk Zuidoost C.V. started construction of the first single-family homes. There are still several houses in the area for sale, currently the last single-family homes are being delivered and the apartments are being built along the ecological zone. De Westwijk Zuidoost C.V. is busy with a reallotment of the final phase. As soon as this continues, we will inform you about this. The number of dwellings and the housing types will remain the same.
Construction traffic in phase 4
Because the first part of the neighborhood will soon be finished, agreements have been made with the developer about construction traffic. We try to separate residents’ traffic and construction traffic as much as possible. A temporary road has been built for this purpose between the tram tracks and the new homes that the construction traffic can use.
In this area, a heat-cold storage building has also been installed at the corner of Bovenkerkerweg and Burgemeester Wiegelweg. The homes in phase four and the apartments in phase 3 are connected to this. In this way, energy is saved on the heating and cooling of the homes.
The service strip
The construction of the Zonnehuis and the nursery is finished and the buildings have been put into use.
On 20 November 2012, an elaboration plan was drawn up for a building of OTT – Our Second Home with facilities and accommodation for people with a disability and space for a church community. Unfortunately, this development does not continue.
Recently agreement has been reached on the establishment of a so-called HAT. A building where GPs, physiotherapists, a pharmacy and possibly other medical or care facilities can move in. In January 2014 a start will be made with the zoning plan for this.
What is already done
Phase 1 and 2, on the south side of the area, are ready. About 450 homes have been built here. The houses are inhabited and the public area has been laid out.
In phase 3, along the Bovenkerkerweg, the apartments are ready and inhabited. About 250 homes have been built here in 5 apartment blocks.
In the area between the apartments and the single-family homes, various play facilities have been laid out, such as a football cage and a basketball court.
In addition, smaller play areas have been installed in the neighborhood at various locations, so that there is sufficient room for maneuver throughout the neighborhood.
No homes on the island yet
On the south side of the area an island has been created with space for 6 detached houses. The houses have not been sold yet. Probably in early 2014 will again be tried to sell the houses with a different type of house.
Westwijk Zuidwest is a neighborhood on the southwest side of Amstelveen. It is bordered on the north side by the existing buildings of Westwijk, on the east side by the Noordammerweg and on the south by the Van Hattumweg. On the west side, the existing houses are located on the Legmeerdijk.

The central Park Strip
The central park strip is almost finished, this spring the last planting goes into it. Nice to see how well this park is being used.
The bridge between Loevenstein and Duivenvoorde
Finally, the bridge between Loevestein and Duivenvoorde will be constructed. Our planning, however, does not completely parallel with that of the implementation. It now appears that the necessary piles of the bridge have a longer delivery time than anticipated. The contractor can start construction at the beginning of May. The bridge is expected to be ready around the construction site. We ask for your understanding for this delay, but after that the route to the Legmeerdijk will be shorter for a large number of inhabitants of this part of Westwijk.
