New Construction bij Amstelstation
In the coming years, the public space around the Amstel Station will be redesigned. The current situation is characterized by an unclear and inefficient use of public space. This leads to unsafe situations and an unattractive place to be. The goal is a lively and safe area, where it is good for residents, passers-by and travelers.
The merging of the motorways, the transfer of the tram line to the side of the station and the construction of underground parking garages, creates space for a new layout of the public area. There will be more footpaths and improved cycle routes and sufficient bicycle parking will encourage the use of the bicycle. Of course it remains possible to pick someone up or drop off. The tram and bus station will also be renewed. Thanks to new roofs and short walkways between the stations, an attractive transition is taking place. These changes provide a new and well-organized station square.
In addition to the Amstel Station, four new blocks will be built with a hotel, shops, houses, offices and facilities. This creates more liveliness in the area, even in the evening. The roundabout at the Prins Bernhardplein will be modified and made safer. Also the Julianalaan is being renewed, with a free bus lane in the middle and trees on both sides will soon be a quieter street scene with a green character. A neighborhood park is being built near the Bertrand Russellstraat and Hugo de Vrieslaan.
Planning and zoning plan

The zoning plan for the Amstelstation and surrounding area was determined by the district council in 2012.
After the adoption, Altera filed an appeal with the Council of State. Altera is the owner of the existing office building at Prins Bernhardplein (number 200). This appeal has led to the zoning plan having to be repaired for Block A and the existing office building of Altera (Prins Bernhardplein 200).
