New construction Jan Evertsenstraat
In the coming years the municipality wants to develop the part of the Jan Evertsenstraat between Mercatorplein and Sloterplas into a lively neighborhood. The plan is to build around 2200 homes, shops and other facilities in this area, in combination with a re-profiling of the road. The result should be a lively city street, with quiet and comfortable living facilities around the corner.
Living in Jan Evertsenstraat
The city is growing fast!
Amsterdam wants to enable the structural growth of the number of inhabitants, including through the rapid realization of a large number of new homes. When looking for construction sites, not only the number of dwellings can be looked at, but also the quality of life that a neighborhood can offer.
The western part of the Jan Evertsenstraat is the ideal place to build large numbers of houses, within an environment that makes the development of a lively city street possible. The street can fully fulfill this function, thanks to its connecting effect between the rapidly developing areas Mercatorplein, Rembrandtpark, Sloterplas and Jan van Galenstraat.
In 2013 and 2014, the West and New West districts and the Spatial Planning Department worked together on a perspective for the Jan Evertsenstraat between the Mercatorplein and the Sloterplas. The report with the perspective outlined here was adopted on 21 and 28 January 2014 by the Executive Board of the New West District and the West District respectively. This so-called Dynamic perspective has also been at the basis of the Strategy Decree, on which the College of B & W will make a decision in the short term.
