New construction in Buiksloterham
Buiksloterham is part of the Northern IJoever and transforms into a sustainable area where living and working naturally take place side by side.
The first new companies came down to the ruggedness of the area and to the feeling of space and freedom. Buiksloterham is a special and water rich area in Amsterdam-Noord with a lot of potential and has a nice central location in the city on the sunny side of the IJ. Approximately 1,500 homes are under development and more than 3,000 homes will be built in the next ten years. And that while Buiksloterham only got its first official residents in 2014.
Transform
The municipality of Amsterdam has not opted for a detailed urban plan for Buiksloterham, but for a gradual transformation. Originally industrial activity has given way to small-scale businesses including the creative industry. In recent years, many designers, architects and other creative pioneers have established themselves in Buiksloterham. Buiksloterham attracts entrepreneurs and residents who like to settle in an area that is not yet completely finished and where there are opportunities for own initiative.
Entrepreneurs
Entrepreneurs build on old constructions. They renovate old buildings into multi-company buildings, such as the Groene Draeck on the IJ. Future-proof new buildings have also been developed, including Boomerang Casa, Asterpark and Kaap Noord.
Self-construction
Own builders and construction groups are building on different plots. The first homebuilders already live in their self-built houses. Self-construction has become a mature part of the Amsterdam housing market. On the building plots, people get the chance to build their own house alone or with a group. Because people are given the opportunity to shape their own wishes, surprising neighborhoods are created by self-construction.
In the coming years, lots will be built on the lots in Buiksloterham. This is expected to be completed in about ten years.
