Residents say: 'You can walk straight into the city center of Lelystad from Parkwijk. Yet it is quiet, spacious and green 'June 11th 2019
In the center of Lelystad, Parkwijk, a new and car-free residential area with cozy courtyards and cozy streets, is emerging. The appeal of Parkwijk has now penetrated into Amsterdam. Gerrit (58) and Sherida (55) will soon be exchanging their apartment in Amsterdam Osorp for a life-style patio house in Parkwijk Lelystad. They tell why their eye fell on Parkwijk.
Park district in Lelystad: lots of greenery and all urban facilities
“In Amsterdam, everything you need is of course close by,” says Sherida. “But a lot was built in our neighborhood and Amsterdam has become very busy.” They lacked peace and space in the capital and decided to look around. Both wanted a new-build home. For about two years, they regularly looked on the internet, looking for a new-build project that matched their housing requirements. They searched in particular in the larger towns in Flevoland. “There you have all the amenities of a city, but more green around you.” Several projects were reviewed, but the perfect match was not always among them. Until they arrived at Parkwijk in Lelystad: they wanted to live there. “We wanted to live close to center facilities. Well, then you're in the right place. From Parkwijk you will soon walk into the center of Lelystad, to eat outside or to go to the movies. We have everything at hand We are used to that too. Yet it is quiet, spacious and green. ” That combination was exactly what the couple imagined. A lot is being built in their current neighborhood. They will soon live on a quiet street with lots of greenery and a park just steps away.
Train station a few minutes walk
Their new place to live is also handy in view of their work. Gerrit and Sherida are working in Amsterdam. They plan to drive to the capital together in the morning. In the afternoon, Gerrit often goes home a little earlier for the dog. It will stay that way. Sherida can then take the train to Lelystad in Amsterdam, without transferring. “Then I'll walk home in 5 minutes.”
Spatial feeling in patio houses in Parkwijk Lelystad
Gerrit and Sherida opted for a single-layer patio house in Parkwijk. “The open living space really appeals to us,” she says. They did not want a very large home, but a spacious feeling. “Small but nice living”, she laughs. The patio doors to the terrace add to that feeling. “We will soon walk outside. This is also ideal for our dog.”
A glimpse of the future: ground floor, low maintenance
The couple made a conscious choice for a ground floor apartment, with the bathroom and the bedroom on the ground floor. Although they are still young in body and members, they already take the future into account. “Of course you don't know how you will be in a few years.” With single-storey new construction, they kill two birds with one stone: you don't have to walk up stairs and you hardly need any maintenance in the coming years. Their home in Amsterdam has since been sold. While awaiting the delivery of their new house, they will first move into a holiday home in Zeewolde. They have now explored Lelystad and the surrounding area well and are looking forward to the move. “Hopefully this will be the last time we move,” says Sherida.
Different types of homes are being built in Parkwijk. The patio houses that Gerrit and Sherida chose are suitable for life. With the bedroom and the bathroom on the ground floor, climbing stairs is a thing of the past. From the bright living room with open kitchen you reach the patio through the patio doors. The patio houses are available with one level. If you want more space, a two-layer version is also possible. What is also special about Parkwijk is that it will be so quiet there that you would almost forget that the city center of Lelystad is next door.
