Het Schip: nominated for the Amsterdam Nieuwbouwprijs 2019
Het Schip is a national monument from 1920. Het Schip is the exemplary project of the Amsterdam School, which shows how beautiful social housing can be. The complex comprises 81 rental properties. These are located in the Zaanstraat, Oostzaanstraat and Hembrugstraat. The shell has been meticulously restored, whereby the outer shell has been brought back to the original image as much as possible. Various interventions in the past had seriously damaged that image. The houses have been improved as far as possible to the comfort standards of today, taking into account the coming energy transition. Because the interior had already been rigorously changed in the past, this offered the possibility of making the houses more sustainable in a modern way. Thanks to good insulation of the shell, 8 to 12 homes can now be heated with two standard boilers, with preparations for a gasless installation.
