The Wenslauerstraathuisjes: second place Amsterdam New Construction Prize 2014
In the past ten years, the Wenslauerstraat in the Bellamybuurt has undergone a transformation. Spurred on by the street renewal plan, dozens of homes have been renovated and more than ten old homes have been demolished and replaced by new ones. The plan is a collaboration of the district, the Stadgenoot housing corporation, private individuals, various architects and small developers. Five houses designed by M3H were recently completed: two houses, each with a single-family house with a garden and a third house with three apartments. The three houses are designed as an ensemble and carefully fitted into the profile of the street. The facades and roof are covered with hardwood slats. The frames are made of coated aluminum and the transition between the frames and the wood consists of steel profiles. The window openings are therefore abstract and simple. The houses have been given a slightly surly and idiosyncratic appearance, which contributes to the traditionally present everydayness and diversity in the street.
