Oosterdokseiland – MVSA: nominated for the Amsterdam New Construction Prize 2014
This building on Oosterdokseiland (lot 3B) is an apartment building with shops on the ground floor and a communal parking garage that extends under all lots. The largest residences with a wide view over the city and the IJ have been realized on the top floors and the building tops. The upper duplex houses have fully glazed bay windows over three floors, and a patio on the roof floor. In the middle are freely divisible apartments with outdoor space on the southwest. All houses have a direct connection to the parking garage where there is a private storage room and a parking space. The building is a characteristic disk-shaped volume with facades of robust green natural stone that extends to the street; this means that the building stands firmly on the ground. The lower floors with a megastore is shared with the adjacent block of Crepain Binst Architecture. Both building parts are kept separate from each other by a glass entrance pavilion and a glass sound screen.
