De Steltloper: nominated for the Amsterdam New Construction Award 2020
The Steltloper is a special 18-storey residential tower located on the Ertskade in the Eastern Docklands. The tower with 126 rental apartments is partly in the water and partly on high legs. The building is lifted above land on slender columns. The view along the quay towards the center of the city has been preserved. The Steltloper on Sporenburg is the finishing touch to the Eastern Docklands. For a long time this site was wasted on the Ertskade. The slender, elegant tower now completes the peninsula. The appearance of De Steltloper is light and airy and differs from the sea of red brick houses in Sporenburg. The strength of De Steltloper is the sloping 12-meter columns on which the tower rests on land and the straight lines in the water. On the seventeen floors above, the apartments are sometimes visible horizontally, sometimes vertically behind the facade, so that it has not become a monotone clump. There is a meeting room and a café on the water on the ground floor for residents and local residents. A park-like public space for the neighborhood with grass, basalt boulders, various types of vegetation and a recreational jetty made of Accoya wood surrounds the building. A parking garage with 88 parking spaces and a bicycle shed has been realized under this landscape. The park contributes to the collection capacity of rainwater. The slender facades are covered with champagne-colored panels of stabilized aluminum foam with an open structure. These panels give the building a robust appearance and at the same time a refined brilliance. The design of the corner balconies adds an elegant play in scale and rhythm. The Steltloper is distinguished by its height and appearance from the predominantly low residential buildings in the area. The building has district heating, uses ventilation with carbon dioxide control and has a solar power installation. Vote for this project!
