Wij_Land: sustainable self-building for realistic idealists on Center Island in Amsterdam. Still homes availableOctober 9th 2019
Sharing, diversity and sustainability. These concepts form the motto of Wij_Land, a sustainable self-building initiative on Center Island in Amsterdam. The Wij_Landers form a diverse group of realistic idealists who strive for a housing project where you can live and live together, consciously and socially. Does that appeal to you? And would you also like to design your own home and design the shared spaces together with the others? Then connect. A few places are still available.
Still various homes available, from 50 to 121 square meters
The housing supply is as diverse as the Wij_Landers. For smaller households and budgets there are homes of 50 and 65 square meters. Of both housing types, one is still available, with prices from 220,000 euros (von). In addition, five larger homes are available in Wij_Land, for larger households or people who want to combine living with work. It concerns three ground-level dwellings of 121 square meters on the inner garden ('garden houses') and two living-working dwellings of 114 and 119 square meters (which can also be used only for living). The target prices for the larger houses vary from around 515,000 to 680,000 euros (von). All prices of Wij_Land are based on an annual canon payment. You can also buy off the ground lease. The intention is that construction will start this year (2019).
Common spaces, joint activities, social enterprises
Not only that great variation, but also the communal spaces and facilities distinguish Wij_Land from other residential and home construction projects. Think of a guest room for guests, a greenhouse on the roof to grow vegetables (with kitchen and meeting room), a roof garden with natural planting, a DIY room and a yoga and workshop room. In addition, one option is to realize flex workplaces in common areas. The human dimension of WIJ_Land is also expressed in the ambition to rent out the commercial spaces at street level (in the 'plinth') to 'social enterprises'.
Sustainable: energy-neutral, rainproof, shared cars and reusable materials
In addition to this type of partial provision, the sustainable character is also characteristic of Wij_Land. With solar panels, green roofs, heat-cold storage and a heat recovery system, the construction group strives for an EPC of 0. That means that the building is energy-neutral, at least even more energy-efficient than the strictest legal requirements for new construction . The building also becomes rainproof (where rainwater is collected and reused). Sustainable, natural, used and easily recyclable materials are used in the construction. And there will be sub-concepts for electric cars, washing machines and tools. Also very sustainable is the plan to start a food cooperative, to prevent food waste.
