New construction project Eerste Oosterparkstraat 88-126 winner Amsterdam New Construction Award 2020June 20th 2020
New construction project Eerste Oosterparkstraat 88-126 of housing corporation Stadgenoot has won the Amsterdam New Construction Award 2020. The project received nearly 20 percent of the vote. Oosterparkstraat 88-126 consists of 16 new buildings that have been built in a historically responsible manner. In addition to 39 rental homes, a supermarket and 1,000 square meters of other retail space have also been realized. Alderman Laurens Ivens (Building and Living) and Fries Heinis of Bouwend Nederland presented the prize to the residents, Stadgenoot, builder Heijmans and Rappagne & Partners Architecten on Saturday afternoon, 20 June.
Not to see that it is new construction, pure craftsmanship
“This is a wonderful project that you hardly notice that it is new construction,” said Alderman Ivens shortly after the presentation. “The buildings seem to have been there since 1900 and have only been freshened up. Local residents are well involved in the plans and the result is impressive. It is great to see that we can also build affordable homes very nicely, even in a difficult place like this, above the shops. Here living is almost envious. ” According to Fries Heinis of Bouwend Nederland, the project does justice to the beautiful street scene with its 'historicising' style. “But it is certainly not always easy,” said Heinis. “In this project, too, it was always necessary to weigh up authenticity and modern quality. The end result is beautiful. With this project, both the architect and the builder demonstrate pure craftsmanship. ”
Social and free sector rental housing
The project consists of 16 new-build buildings that have been built in a historically responsible manner. There are 39 rental homes. 13 of these are social rental homes, 6 of which are for large families (with more than 100 square meters). The other 26 homes are private sector rental homes. The original late nineteenth century buildings that stood on this site were too low, too narrow and too small. The neighborhood indicated that a large supermarket, shops and social rental homes should be built. At the same time, local residents and politicians did not want to demolish the buildings. Demolition and rebuilding in the same style were negotiable. That also happened, with some additions. For example, the ground floor was raised and floors were added. The houses also have a common entrance with a staircase and an elevator. All in all, the character of the street has been preserved thanks to the new construction. Special elements of the old buildings, such as façade anchors, balcony fences and natural stone decorations, have been reused.
Oosterparkstraat 88-126: real Amsterdam homes
“We wanted to build real Amsterdam homes here,” said Patrick Barské of Stadgenoot. “And we did that, completely in the style of the beautiful Oosterpark neighborhood. It had to be houses that were built with craftsmanship. And homes that are valued by the people who live there: our tenants. That was our commitment and we succeeded. ”
