A few upstairs apartments still available in beloved Van der Pekbuurt in Amsterdam NoordAugust 17th 2019
A few upstairs apartments are still available in the first phase of the Van der Pek renovation project in the neighborhood of the same name in Amsterdam Noord. It concerns homes of 73 to 89 square meters with an outside space on the south or southwest. The prices start at 465,000 euros (von). This includes plumbing, a kitchen value check and 50 years of surrendered leasehold. The Van der Pekbuurt is very popular because of the beautiful village architecture.
Van der Pekbuurt: renovation properties with their own character in Amsterdam Noord
The still available upstairs apartments have the living room on the first floor. From there you look out onto the green Meidoornplein. There are two or three (bed) rooms on the second floor. The houses all have their own character and are light and spacious, thanks to the ceiling height of 2.60 meters. Special are the wooden beams that support the roof. They give the attic a rustic and robust touch. Also very special: the high-quality renovated stairwells. These exude the special atmosphere of the 1920s, when the houses were built.
Van der Pekbuurt: quality of today, appearance of then
The houses in the Van der Pekbuurt will be completely renovated, so that you will have little or no maintenance in the coming years. In this way, they are energy-efficient and technically prepared for a gasless future via district heating. They also receive new frames with double glazing and a completely new inner package. This includes new installations, ventilation ducts and smoke detectors. A nice side effect of the renovation is that you buy a house with new-build quality, while the work only takes eight months. For comparison: the construction of a new-build house takes more than a year. In addition, the historic appearance is being restored. The (new) wooden frames, for example, get the original colors from the twenties: ocher yellow, dark green and red-brown. The renovation is expected to start at the end of January 2020. Delivery is planned after the summer of 2020.

Historical character Van der Pekbuurt ensures prices
The renovation is being carried out by Dura Vermeer. Earlier, between 2015 and 2017, 190 homes in the Van der Pekbuurt were also renovated. The job was then completed by the Ymere housing association, in collaboration with Dura Vermeer. The neighborhood was built between 1918 and 1926 for the working class. Architect Jan Ernst van der Pek is the designer of the houses. The municipality of Amsterdam is responsible for preserving the historic character. That's not for nothing. It is precisely that character that makes the neighborhood so popular. In 2018, the Van der Pekbuurt won the Amsterdam New Building Prize and the Arie Keppler Prize.
